Design or development — which do you need?
They are different jobs and it is worth knowing which one you are buying. Design is the layout, brand, and the decisions about what a visitor sees first. Development is the build: performance, CMS, forms, integrations, and the code underneath. A pretty design built badly is slow; a fast build with no design thinking does not convert.

Content is almost always the bottleneck — photographs, service descriptions, real customer names. Decide before you start who is writing it. If the answer is "the developer", agree that in scope and price, or the project will stall on your side.
Choose a developer who talks about results
If the conversation is only about design — colours, sliders, animations — and never about speed, search, and conversions, you will get a pretty site that does nothing. Good questions to ask:
- What will this site rank for, and how is it structured to do that?
- What is the target load time on a mid-range phone, and how will you measure it?
- Can I edit text, images, and pages myself? Show me the admin.
- Who owns the domain, hosting, and code — and can I take it elsewhere?
- What happens after launch — updates, backups, security patches?
The answer to question four should be you, unambiguously. A developer who holds your domain holds your business.
